Amichai sustained a severe gunshot wound to the head. Despite the doctors’ efforts to save him, he was declared brain dead. His family then decided to donate his organs to save lives. His lungs were transplanted into a 70-year-old at Beilinson, liver into a 23-year-old at Ichilov, and a liver segment into an 8-year-old at Schneider. A kidney went to a 29-year-old at Beilinson, and another to a 7-year-old at Rambam.
His family wrote: “Amichai Rubin, who fell at age 23, was the third son of Yishai and Batya Rubin, founders of the Ometz Garin in Acre. From a young age, he was involved in giving and humility, a beloved brother and friend, whose company everyone enjoyed. Last November, he joined Golani’s 51st Battalion. Amichai was an outstanding soldier and was scheduled to assume a command position next month. On October 7, Rubin and his friends were at a post near the Gaza border when the murderous attack by Hamas terrorists began. Due to the mortar fire, they all ran to the shelter unarmed and without combat gear. Amichai was among the first to storm and return fire with his weapon, killing many terrorists and even saving comrades who fought alongside him. During the battle, he was shot in the leg, sat down, and continued to fight. After a few minutes, he was hit by a bullet in his head, which affected his brain, yet he continued to fight for another 20 long minutes until he collapsed.”
