Ziv Yinon Shofan

Resident of the Gaza Envelope

According to Ziv’s sister, he was in Tel Aviv on October 7, 2023. When he started reading WhatsApp messages about the attack on Kibbutz Be’eri, he drove south. Despite multiple stops and pleas from friends to turn back, Ziv continued. His heart was in the right place; he wanted to save his friends. Unfortunately, contact was lost with him upon his arrival.

  1. To the family and friends of Ziv Yinon Shofan HY”D,

We are so, so very sorry for your loss. You knew and loved Ziv in all his complexity and we are only learning just the smallest piece about his life, but it tells so much. Just the fact that he left relative safety and drove straight into the heart of danger to try to save others, and fell in the attempt, is such a powerful legacy of altruism and caring. It’s such a terrible tragedy that he died trying to do something so noble. But may the rest of us who grieve with you all across the world be inspired to try to follow his example of selflessness. And may you be comforted from heaven at this awful time.
