Lt. Col. Roi Yosef Levi

Age:44
IDF

Lt. Col. Roi Levi was killed in a surprise attack by Hamas in the south of the country. Roi led his team bravely and was the first to enter the battle in Kibbutz Re’im and save civilians trapped in their homes, while eliminating roughly ten terrorists. Roi commanded a Golani Reconnaissance company during Operation ‘Protective Edge’ and was seriously wounded in the battle of Shuja’iyya after a rocket-propelled grenade hit a terrorist’s house they entered, leading to the building’s collapse. His fighting spirit and sense of mission were stronger than anything. After recovering from his injuries, he returned to the IDF, commanding the elite ‘Egoz’ unit and serving as the company commander for ‘Otzbat Baram,’ during which Hezbollah’s flagship terror tunnels were destroyed. He commanded a training center for live fire and began his role as commander of the multi-dimensional unit two and a half months ago. Roi was chosen by the Chief of Staff to light a torch on Israel’s 70th Independence Day.
