“Even when Dvir enlisted, his message continued to arrive, albeit less frequently, and with a wording change to ‘when are we going to play soccer?’ but it came,” Shachar recounted. “He was a curious and charming guy with a crazy sense of humor and a total addiction to fitness. When he offered to talk, we had long conversations about life. I empathized with him when he was injured and encouraged him when he fought to return and be the best paratrooper possible.”
