Dror Kaplon

Resident of the Gaza Envelope

Dror Kaplon, a 68-year-old father of three and the son of Holocaust survivors, lived in Kibbutz Be’eri with his wife Marcel, a chemistry Ph.D at the Weizmann Institute. Born and raised in Kibbutz Ruhama, he spent his life in the Gaza Envelope.

“We never imagined such a thing could happen,” his daughter Maayan said. “He was with Marcel in the safe room; we wrote to them to stay safe, but we never really said goodbye. We didn’t understand the gravity of the situation. In the first hours after losing contact, we still prayed it was just a communication issue and that they would be rescued soon and everything would be okay.”
