Ben Zusman

IDF

Zusman’s last will stated, “I’m writing this message on my way to the base. If you are reading this, something probably happened to me. As you know, I couldn’t be happier than at this moment. I am about to fulfill my dream. I’m happy and grateful for the opportunity to protect our beautiful land and the people of Israel.

Even if something happens to me, don’t sink into sadness. I had the privilege of fulfilling my dream and destiny. Rest assured that I’m watching you from above and smiling broadly. Probably sitting next to Grandpa, catching up on experiences and changes between wars. Maybe we’ll even discuss politics, and get his opinion.

If God forbid you’re sitting shiva, turn it into a week of friends, family, and fun. There should be food, meat of course, beers, soft drinks, seeds, tea, and obviously Mom’s cookies. Make jokes, hear stories, and meet all my other friends you haven’t seen yet. Wow? I’m envious. I’d love to be there to see everyone.

Another very important point. If, God forbid, I’m captured, alive or dead, not a single soldier or civilian should be hurt in some deal for my release. Do not run a campaign or struggle for that. I’m not willing for terrorists to be released in exchange for me. In no way, shape, or form. Please don’t twist my words.

I’ll say it again, I left home without being called for reserves. I’m full of pride and a sense of mission and always said that if I must die, may it be while protecting others and the country. Jerusalem, I’ve entrusted guardians, may the day come when I’ll be one of them.”
