Avner Goren

Age:56
Resident of the Gaza Envelope

Avner was murdered, Mia, his wife, was kidnapped, and the children were saved. A man blessed with multiple talents – spirit, writing, and knowledge across various fields – he wrote texts full of wit and humor, which were used to celebrate the holidays. He was a significant and influential figure in the kibbutz’s accounting management activities, a true expert in his field. The people of Nir Oz were fortunate to enjoy all the talents with which he was blessed. He endured the loss of both his parents — the sudden death of his father, Yoram, from which he struggled to recover, and the long and painful separation from his mother, Penina. Pictures of both his parents were prominently displayed in his office, and they watched over him every day. The family he left behind — his children whom he loved with all his heart, Asif, Bar, Dekel, and Gal, and his sister Smadar and her family — mourn his cruel murder and are in agonizing and strained anticipation for the return of his wife, Mia. The people of Nir Oz will miss him very much. May his memory be blessed.
