The Vaspi family has been struck by bereavement for the third time. A family that lost a father and brother has now lost a son. The family patriarch, Lt. Col. Yoav Vaspi, fell in battle during the Yom Kippur War. For his actions in battle, he received the Medal of Valor. Nine years later, the family lost the brother, Arnon Vaspi, a fighter in the Paratroopers Reconnaissance Unit, who fell in the Lebanon War. His sister Vered named her son Arnon after her fallen brother. And now the family is struck by bereavement for the third time, with Arnon the son also falling in battle in the Gaza Strip. May their memories all be blessed.

Dear Vaspis,
We American Jews share in your tremendous loss. Arnon’s courage is a testament to your courage, his sense of duty a monument to your loyalty to the State of Israel, his sacrifice a reminder of all they have given to the Jewish people. Hashem yikom damo. May you be comforted among the mourners of Tzion and Yerushalayim
