Aner Elyakim Shapira

Aner Shapira served in the Nahal Brigade’s ‘Orev’ unit, saving countless lives during the massacre at the Nova music festival near Kibbutz Re’im. Aner, who was 22 years old at his death, was just a month away from being discharged from the IDF. By throwing out most of the grenades that were thrown those huddled in a shelter, he managed to save half of the people he was with. Survived by his family, Aner was laid to rest at Mount Herzl in the presence of hundreds, including his friends from the stands of Hapoel Jerusalem – a team he had loved in recent years. May his memory be a blessing.
