The 19-year-old from the Samarian community of Hermesh was killed while defending the southern border communities. His cousin was murdered the day before during the massacre at the music festival near Re’im. His friend from the battalion, Amri Adari, eulogized him, recounting the moments when he courageously threw himself on a grenade, saving the lives of his fellow soldiers.

I can’t possibly understand what you must be going through after the loss of your beloved son, Matan. I too have a Matan around the same age as your son. Your son was a true hero for the people of Israel. Thank you for loaning him to the entire Jewish nation. May his blood be avenged and his memory be for a blessing. May his departure be a temporary one and you be reunited soon with him with the coming of Moshiach Tzidkeynu.
May Hashem comfort you among the other mourners. My prayer and tears are with you and your family. You raised a special neshama.
